RURAL SOCIOLOGY SUBMISSION
(Revised February 18,2008)
Dear Colleagues,
Greetings from the editorial office of Rural Sociology at Louisiana State University. We are happy to announce that we have begun the transition to an entirely web-based peer review system on AllenTrack, hosted by our printer, Allen Press.
We want to make this transition as smooth and transparent as possible, so we have tried to assemble all relevant information in this document. Please read it carefully before emailing to ask about the status of your paper.
EVERYONE:
We have imported databases from the society and the journal, so most of you probably already have a record in the new system.
To login, please visit our new AllenTrack site at http://rs.allentrack2.net.
On the main login screen of the new Rural Sociology AllenTrack website, click on "Unknown/Forgotten Password." On the next screen, enter your email address, or your first name and last name. If your record has been properly transferred, the system will email you a password that you can use to log in, at which time you'll be prompted to create your own password. If the website returns an error message saying that your record doesn't exist, please go back to the login screen and register as a new user.
When you log in to your new account, please edit your profile and make sure that your areas of competency are complete and accurate - we will be using these to choose reviewers in the future.
AUTHORS:
All new and revised manuscripts must now be submitted through AllenTrack. We are no longer requiring any hard copies of your manuscript for submission.
If your manuscript has a conditional accept, a final accept, or is in some other post-peer review state, it may not be entered into AllenTrack. Continue to follow the previous instructions you've been given, but ask if a point is unclear.
If your manuscript is currently under review , we have imported it into AllenTrack manually. You should have received an email when your manuscript was entered into the system, with a request to log in and confirm the imported information.
If your manuscript received an R&R before February 2008, please submit it through the system as a new manuscript. Specify in your cover letter, or within the submission process under Detailed Information/Manuscript Comments, that this is a revision (with original tracking number if known). We will consult your original file in the editorial office, as we are unable to import this information into AllenTrack. You are not required to submit another fee, but please check one of the payment options anyway.
REVIEWERS:
You will now access manuscripts and submit reviews through AllenTrack.
If you are currently reviewing a manuscript, log in as instructed under "EVERYONE" above, and follow the links to submit your review. You can copy and paste from our review form, or from your word processing program. If you have any trouble with this, you are welcome to send the your review by email to rslsu@lsu.edu as previously requested.
A NOTE ON ANOTHER TRANSITION:
Shortly after this transition to AllenTrack is complete, we will begin the editorial transition from LSU to Michael Schulman at North Carolina State University. Joachim will make the final decisions on R&Rs already submitted, but Michael will take over for most new manuscripts submitted this year, and all manuscripts submitted henceforth.
If you have any questions or problems, please contact the managing editor, Laurie Chancey, at rslsu@lsu.edu.
