William R. Freudenburg Award of Merit Recognizing Exceptional Contributions to the Sociology of Natural Resources and the Environment
Award Overview
The William R. Freudenburg Award of Merit is presented to recognize exceptional contributions to the sociology of natural resources and the environment. The award is given to recognize an outstanding legacy or collective body of work that has demonstrably impacted natural resources and environmental sociology.
Eligibility
- Recipients must demonstrate outstanding research and scholarship, judged not only by the number of publications but by their impact.
- Impact should reflect a substantive influence on the trajectory of thinking within natural resources and environmental sociology.
- Evidence of impact may include application of work beyond academia, such as collaborations with:
- Natural resource agencies
- Organizations
- Other partnerships
- Additional contributions considered important:
- Outstanding outreach
- Graduate student mentorship
- Instruction in the field
- Contributions to the NRRIG or sociology of natural resources and environment are valued.
- Nominees do not need to be current or past members of NRRIG.
Requirements
- Up to 3 letters clearly explaining the reasons for considering the nominee’s contribution to the sociology of natural resources and the environment.
- CV
- All award applications must be submitted through the official RSS website submission portal. Applications sent via email or any other method will not be considered.
Award
- Recognition at the NRRIG business meeting.
