Celebrating Florence Becot Advancing Rural Health and Safety
RSS proudly celebrates Florence Becot, who was recently recognized by the Agricultural Safety and Health Society for her impactful work in rural sociology and agricultural safety. Her research has helped shape policies and practices that improve the well-being of rural communities across the country.
Florence’s work focuses on the intersection of rural livelihoods, health systems, and agricultural safety. Her recognition by the Society highlights the importance of evidence-based research in shaping safer and healthier rural environments.
“As a rural sociologist trained in the land-grant system and committed to the translation of research, Florence has dedicated her career to supporting agricultural communities through research on farm families’ health, safety and economic well-being,” said Gloria Brock, president of the International Society for Agricultural Safety and Health. “Her work employs diverse methods — literature reviews, interviews, focus groups and surveys — and addresses both practical and theoretical issues.”
Florence’s recognition is a testament to the power of interdisciplinary collaboration and the value of rural voices in shaping national safety initiatives. Congratulations, Florence!
