SAFRIG Diversity Travel Award for HBCU and Global South Scholars Supporting participation from HBCU and Global South communities
Award Overview
Supports the attendance and participation of up to two participants at the annual Rural Sociological Society (RSS) conference. One award is reserved for a participant associated with an HBCU (or an organization located in and serving primarily Black communities), while a second is reserved for a participant associated with a Global South college or university (or an organization located in and serving primarily Global South communities). These awards will be awarded on a competitive basis and are meant to assist participants in defraying costs associated with attending the RSS meeting.
Applicants will be assessed based on financial need and the potential beneficence of conference participation to career development.
Eligibility
- Current member of the Rural Sociological Society (RSS)
- Able to fund conference travel upfront, as the award will be presented at the RSS SAFRIG Business Meeting
Requirements
- Must be an active participant of the meeting by presenting a paper, participating on a panel, or presenting a poster on research
- Submitted paper must be on a SAFRIG-related topic

- $500 in Award Funds per winner
